Mission Objective: Relaxed Alone at Home Pooch
In your search for help, you have probably found a lot of quips about quick fixes or lines that say it is not treatable. Why? Simply because there is not a quick fix. Anxiety is experienced differently by each individual and response rates to modification of fear and anxiety-based behaviors vary from dog to dog and case to case.
Separation anxiety is a panic disorder or phobia. Your dog isn't angry with you for leaving and it is not something they will just get over. No more than you would get over a fear of heights by being held over the ledge of a high rise every day for eight-plus hours. We have to start where your dog feels comfortable and systematically build upon it always going at his pace. This may feel like bio-speed in our oh-so-fast-paced world, but it is key!
So how does mission impossible become possible? Through a signed contract with your dog that you will never leave him alone longer than he can handle and a systematic desensitization training plan that is updated daily based on your mission diary along with weekly live video assessments.
Live? Video? Yes! The new 21st century approach to separation anxiety is more efficient and effective for you and your dog because your missions will be real-life sessions with an expert multi-credentialed separation anxiety specialist "behind the curtain" to guide you. With today’s technology—laptops, smart phones, home cameras, Zoom—remote training enables us to take on clients all over the world!
Don’t worry if gadgets aren’t your thing—if you can dial a phone and start up your computer, we’re good to go.
